A tour of the fundamentals and equipment for plein air painting

Have you ever wanted to go painting outside but don’t know where to start? 

Artists Stephanie West and Wendy Ahlm will guide you with a tour of materials, setup and basics to get started painting outdoors.  

 

Students will:

• Test a variety of plein air setups
  • watercolor, pastel, & oil
  • Setups include U.go, Alla Prima Pochade, Prolific Painter, Open Box M, Guerrilla Box, Heilman Box, & custom
• Learn what to pack
• Learn how to set up an easel umbrella for shade
• Get tips for favorite NM locations to paint
• Test a variety of paints and brushes
• Practice setting up, finding a view and make a painting outdoors

Materials for the day will be provided.

Bring a sketchbook or notebook, a pen, water, a hat and a lunch.

Dress in layers.
